Feb 14, 2002 7:39 AM | | I want to upgrade my 8spd Ultegra group to STI but I'm not sure if I should just buy a new 9spd set of levers or look around for an 8spd set. I haven't read many good things about the longevity of Ultegra STI's so I'm hesitant to pick up a used pair. Are the 9spd levers compatible? What about the Modolo Morphos levers? |

Feb 14, 2002 7:03 PM | | No 9 speed STI will not work with 8 speed for the rear, but the front will work. I have used a pair of 9 speed Ultegra for 3 years and they still work. There was the usual front cap rattle issue, but the new ones are held on with screw. |

Feb 15, 2002 11:46 AM | | you CAN use 9 speed levers with 8 speed casette. just set the high/low limits on the derailleur, as well as the barrel adjuster, and you should be good to go. you will have 1 extra click on the rear shifter, but no big deal. |
