| Wellgo R4 Pedals? | MarvinK Feb 11, 2002 9:05 PM | | Anyone know much about these pedals? They seem to be very popular OEM pedals for Tiagra & 105-class bikes, but I can't find any reviews. My wife's getting her first road bike and I need some pedals--local shop will sell them for $25. Anyone had problems with these pedals? |

They're a little on the heavy side, but ungodly cheap. They operate similar to any shimano series pedals, so if she eventually upgrades, she can make the switch without having to learn a new system. If she wants a stiffer platform, she should run some low-float cleats, and she might very well need them; even with the tension cranked as high as it'll go, there's a fair amount of play in these pedals. One warning however; if your wife has a wicked sprint, stay away from them. I'm 135 lbs and came unclipped once while sprinting up a hill. I managed to stay on the bike, but it was a little sketchy.

| Wellgo pedals are JUNK!! | Rusty McNasty Feb 12, 2002 2:02 PM | | They'll break in about 2 months. For $20 more, you can get a much better pedal from look, etc. Don't even consider this piece of $hit. |
| Wellgo pedals are JUNK!! | _Marty_ Feb 12, 2002 4:38 PM | | 2 months? how tough are you on youre stuff?? ive used a few wellgo pedals on my mtb.. when they failed.. anything else would have too.. trust me! 3 pairs in 4 years of some racing.. loads of training.. and lately.. vicious drops.. on a hardtail. no less.. for inexpensive pedals.. wellgo rocks! ive yet to find stuff thsat works as well.. for the money.. sure.. 200$ pedals work better.. but their not 180$ more performance.. maybe 20 bucks more.. |
| Wellgo pedals are JUNK!! | MarvinK Feb 12, 2002 5:40 PM | | While I've never tried the R4s, I have used their 700 & 800 series SPD mtn pedals. I agree--the in/out of those wasn't as nice as it could be.... but they held up fine. Generally got rid of them because I wanted newer pedals, better engagement, etc... not because they failed. |
| Look are excellent pedals but. . . | allervite Feb 13, 2002 11:51 AM | | Wellgo makes a lot of pedals for other brands that you would probably be surpriseda at. |
