i want to swap cranksets so i can have the 53/39 combo in the front and this seems cheaper than doing all the stuff to go to a double. can i expect any problems?

unless your shifters are double, no. all parts 105 and up are fully compatible.

I don't think many of us have experience with the D/A triple. The D/A triple shifters are not the same as the D/A double or the Ultegra triples. But I think your Ultegra shifters will work OK. The Ultegra shifters are the same for doubles and triples. But I suspect that the D/A triple shifters will be smoother than the Ultegras and would make a good upgrade at a later date. The D/A triple front derailleur is not the same as the Ultegra so you may want to change it, but I bet the Ultegra unit would work. Since the D/A triple big ring is 53 instead of 52 it's possible that you might need another link of chain, and of course you will need to stay with the "triple" long cage rear derailleur. I think you may need to change the bottom bracket, the D/A triple BB is specific.
