|Ultegra Shifter won't pull cable.........Please Help!!||Wise Guy|

|I am installing a new set of 6510 Ultegra Shifters and I am having problems in getting the rear shifter to pull cable. The shifter clicks as if ratcheting but the cable doesn't move in either direction. I am following the installation instructions to the letter. Is there anything I can do to get these working or do I need to return for replacement???|

|Sounds like the cable end isn't seated properly - when installing, wiggle it around a bit as you pull on it - see if you can get it to seat|

|I just went through the same thing. You need to make sure the shifter is completely relaxed. That is push the brake lever, as if you were shifting to a larger (physically) cog, enough times (8 or 9) until it doesn't 'ratchet' any more. Then push the small lever, as if you were shifting to smaller cogs, enough times (8 or 9) until it doesn't ratchet any more. Now you shift mechanism is 'relaxed' and you insert the der cable. You can test the cable by seating it the shifter and then pushing the brake lever. It should now pull the cable.|

|You can find detail service instructions for the shifter at www.shimano.com ... but at the Europe link for cycling products, not the North American link.
The instuctions say to shift the inner lever (like shifting to a smallest cog) until the 'cable hook' lines up with the cable hole. It may take more than 8 clicks. You should clearly be able to see a 'sleeve with a slit in it' that is the cable hook lining up with the cable hole. The sleeve fits around the cable end.
