Shimano Chain on Campy 10bornin1964

I've heard that the Shimano 9 chain on Record 10 works better than the c-chain... Thoughts/Experiences?

Yes the Shimano chain will "work" (barely) but it's absolutely not better than the Campy chain.

The shop that built my brothers first C10 bike used a Shimano chain and after careful inspection of the chain/cog clearance (there was NONE) and after battling minor adjustment problems I replaced the chain with a Campy C10 chain. All adjustement problems vanished. Smooth and QUIET! :-)

BTW: the the C10 chain is good for 5K+ miles if serviced properly. If you are PL phobic (you should be), you can install the chain without the PL. Connex makes a new C10 compatable chain and there is a super-link available also. Lots of options..... with the absolute worse option being the Shimano chain.

I've heard that it works but is not ideal as it's just a tad wider. Better solution if you want a removable chain would be to use the SRAM quick link with the 10s chain.

So has anyone actually used the SRAM link with the campy 10 speed chain?

The Shimano chain is to wide for the Campy cassette therefore you will experience horrible shifting. I use a Shimano 8 speed Dura-Ace chain on my Campy Record 8 speed drivetrain and prefer it over Campy. You may do the same for 9 speed but I would not recomend it for 10 speed.

Hope this helps

Thanks All. I'll just get a spare C-10. I'm pretty uptight about post ride cleanings sooo.

CT1, what year is your frame? Color? I assume all record...

If you mean my new CT1, it's an 02. I ordered it way back in early Sep and it finally got here yesterday.

Here's a pic of the frame with just the fork and BB installed. I'll have the full Record parts on it for my Sat ride. Oh, the colors in the pic don't do the frame justice. ;)

I would have gotten a C40 but I wanted to try something "different".
