Ergobrain...is it worth it??PaulCL

I have a $100 gift certificate from Col cyclist burning a hole in my pocket. I've always coveted the ergobrain. Since it would cost me about $25 net, I'm seriously considering the purchase.

Other than speed, cadence,time,etc...what specialty functions does it have that I can't live without?? And is it as much of a PIA to install and learn as I've heard about?

Instalation is really fairly easy. Set up is also as long as you get a good understanding of the different menus and sub menus. I have to admit I tried to set the time before I understood the menus and I couldn't do it and got very frustrated, but once you get the basic understanding it's really very easy.
I like it and the best part about it is the CAMPAGNOLO across the front.

uh ... actually, Branfordbike says it's made by Cateye. In Japan. :)
anyway, similar concept to Shimano's Flight Deck ... which I now cannot live without. VERY useful.

One feature I can't live without is a backlit display (too many of my riding hours are early morning in the spring and fall). The Ergobrain 10 has it, the 9 doesn't.

Do you have to turn the backlite on each time? I turned it on once but then when the unit powered down to just the clock, the backlite was turned off. I just assumed that you must set it to on every time you needed it.

It is very capable if you want to get into all the sub menus, with beeps that can be set to help with training times or speeds. Also it is easy to use just the basic features if that is all you want.
Yes you have to turn the backlight on ever single time!Bikeman

It is good though! It has gear indicators man! What more could you ask for? You'll never have to look between your legs to see what cog you're in! Enough said.
