|26.0mm Open face stem on 25.8mm bar??||bigdave|

|I currently have a ITM bar with a 25.8 mm diameter clamp area. I am looking for a new stem that is 1 cm longer than my current stem, but as it is a 1" quill, my options for quality stems are limited.
I am thinking about the Salsa stem as it is a quality (albeit heavy) piece.
Here's the quandry: the Salsa has a 26.0 clamp and the bar is a 25.8. I was planning on getting the two-bolt, open-face stem.
Will this work? Or is it just a *bad* idea to make the two work together.
I don't want to shell out the $$ for the Salsa if this is a dumb idea.

|manufacturing tolerances (ie 26.0 +- 5%) make those 2 compatible|

|What not use the Millennium? It's plenty stiff and properly sized.
I wouldn't worry about using any 26.0 stem, as long as it's an open-face type. It shouldn't cause a problem.
Worst case, a pop can shim (.004 inch) can be used to make-up the difference. I'd try it without the shim first.

|I have a 25.8 handlebar and bought a 26.0 stem by mistake. I tried shims, but that didn't work to well because you have to really torque down on the bolts. I ended up buying a 25.8 stem and I am much happier.|| |
