length of mounting bolts/recessed nuts differ... and Campy now makes dual pivot front and SP rear. If you're talking cantilevers there is absolutely no difference
maybe turn brake pads around, too nmDog

What about for Shimano 105 road bike brakes?
Same brakes (but mirrored), different mounting bolts nmWrench

If that were the case you would have the cable coming out the right side on one, and the left on the other. They are simply the same brakes, with different mounting bolts/nuts.
