Pre-2001 vs Post-2001 Record Rear DerailleursMcAndrus

Quick question. I have a pre-2001 9-speed Campy Chorus/Daytona setup on my bike. I am looking to get a 9-speed Record rear derailleur.

Branford Bike's site says that the pre-2001 shifters are not compatible with the post-2001 rear derailleurs because the parallelograms are different.

I've looked at Campagnolo's technical information on their website. I'm not a bicycle engineer but the pre-2001 derailleurs seem the same as the post-2001 in parallelogram design.

Can anyone confirm that pre-2001 shifters will not work with post-2001 rear derailleurs?

Thats what my Campy catalogue says. Pre 2001 shifters/rear derailers had different cable pull/derailer throw ratios.

from their web catalogue:

The Ergo lever insert gear below, LD-99-54 will fit ALL Campagnolo 8 speed Ergo levers from 1992 to 1997 and 1998 Campagnolo 9 speed levers. It will also fit 8 speed Sachs New Success Ergo levers.
LD-99-54 must be used with 2001 Camapagnolo 9 speed rear derailleurs.
LD-99-54 9 speed Ergo lever insert gear for 2001 9 speed rear derailleurs $29.88

they can do it for you ($45 labour) or you can do it yourself, a few on this post are masters at this lever stuff so i am sure they will be able to help. otherwise it might be worth checking to see if campyonly.com have some articles particular to the innards of ergo levers.
