FSA Carbon Splined fit on Shimano BB(3 posts)

FSA Carbon Splined fit on Shimano BBCima Coppi

Good morning all,

Once again I need to pick some knowledge out of the collective wisdom of the board. I installed the FSA Carbon crank for the Shimano splined bb on my friend's bike. I am noticing, quite easily, that the FSA crank does not rest as far onto the bb as the Shimano crank I replaced it with. Therefore, the chain line is radically angled when the chain is on the 39/23 (top cog) combination.

When I researched this on FSA website, they note the tapered crank needs to be matched to a 103mm tapered bb, but the Shimano spined bb's are 109.5mm. All they say is the splined crank will fit on the Shimano bb

Has anyone had experience setting this up? Do I need to lubricate the splines to force the crank arm further on to the bb?

Any comments or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

CC

I ran into the same problem. shimano has always said to lube the crank/spline interface.
a) to get the crank to seat properly .(the prob you are having)
b) to prevent the crank seizing on the bb spindle
c) if you don't, it'll creak like an old lady.
a light coating of grease will do the trick. also make sure the splines are lined up. i know a moron...er, mechanic, who didn't line 'em up and the crank feel off and it chewed the soft aluminum splines to hell and back.
Many thanks for this information!!! (nm)Cima Coppi
