Close outs, USA, Euro...what ever, who has the best deal?

Any problems running these shoes with speedplay pedals?

Thanks

I don't know about the speedplay issue. But XXCycle.com, a French company, has fantastic prices on Carnac shoes. When you check out the site, be sure to click on the option that specifies where you live because the European VAT tax is not applicable to people living outside the European Union.

A sample price: Carnac Quartz for $178.91 plus 21.46 for shipping (the shoes cost 213.98 with the VAT). I know that shipping is fairly expensive but the same shoe sells at Performance for $249.99, plus shipping.

I just got some Carnac Storm shoes (high top winter shoes), they are great. I am not sure about this but I think that XXCycle is like a lot of internet companies, they have very little in stock and will order your item from the manufacturer when you place your order. My shoes were ordered from Carnac and came in about 3 weeks.

Cheers
holy cow! thanks for the link!gtx

so I wasn't exactly sure from your post, but you've ordered from XXCycle.com before? I've been looking for a cheaper source for Carnacs for a while now. Also like the better color and model selection than you find in the States. Carnacs rule. Thanks again.

Excel has Sidi energy's for 158. Don't use their adaptor plates-they don't quite match the speedplay pattern. Speedplay's shims work fine, so buy the shoes and forget about the adaptors.

Sinclair Imports is responsible for bringing Carnac shoes into the states. If you're a bike store imployee or have a close friend who works at a shop, call them and ask for an employee price.

Someone (Performance or Nashbar I think) is closing out Time Equipe Pro shoes for $130 which is a very good price.

Personally, I like Carnac Legends, but I have owned Time shoes and they are nice. Sidi tends to run very unless you get their wide version (which I would still be wary of without trying). I spent a few very uncomfortable months in some Sidi Genuis 2 shoes one summer.

About six months ago I got a pair of Genius 3s at zonabici.com for $105 plus about $35 in shipping. I also ordered some other items so the shipping cost didn't seem so bad. Anyhow, Speedplays work fine with Sidis. Just be sure that you kept the Sidi adaptors if you already have the pedals.

Carnac and Sidi have a different fit. Have you tried on these shoes? Shoes should really be purchased based on the fit. And the only way to narrow down the ones that fit you is to try them on. It is not worth saving a little money, only to find out you ordered a size to big and now have to send them back. And if you say, I'm a size 44. Well, a 44 in a Carnac will not fit someone who wears a 44 in Sidi, and that goes the other way around also. One more thing, Sidi road shoes have a lifetime warranty, but only when purchased through a USA authorized dealer. That excludes all of the links posted above. I understand saving money is important, but a deal is not always as good as it would appear on the surface.

I have been riding with Carnac Legends with Speedplay x-1s for 2 years with no problems. You may need a Carnac made speedplay adapter depending on the shoe you choose. You may be able to get the adapter for free when you buy the shoe.
