Will Ultegra triple work with double?(5 posts)

Will Ultegra triple work with double?James

My setup is Ultegra triple(9spd). I was wondering if i could replace the triple crank set with a double? I know that my shifters a will work with both and that i'll have to change the BB. Anything else?

I had my LBS swap out an ultegra double with a new ultegra triple. They replaced the Bottom Bracket and also the front and rear derailers.

i also replaced my cranks with doubles. all the components worked, but the front D was a nightmare to tune. the shifters and rear D worked fine.

I did the same and the front derailer never shifted like when I had the triple. I changed the BB. I did it mainly because I wanted longer cranks and didn't need the triple. Just to remove one gear I wouldn't do it. If thats the case, save yourself some time and money and keep the triple.

in my experience, I could POSSIBLY have lived with the front derailleur, but it was very very hard to adjust, so I changed it. you MIGHT want to change the shifters - remember, shifters are designed for doubles or triples. BUT mine work all right with my cranks. and of course, there's no getting around the bottom bracket.
