Ultegra BB Crank question(3 posts)

Ultegra BB Crank questionbillgear

Helllo,
New to biking and building my first bike. I'm wondering if the Ultegra splined crank/bb have to be inserted in a special way. I don't have instructions for the crank set?
It looks like the splines are all the same width, so the the cranks will fit in any sort of "clocking" is this correct? Any help or directions would be appreciated.

Regards,
BillGear

I have the service instruction sheet for the Ultegra crankset (FC 6500/6503) and bottom bracket (BB6500).
I quote:

"1. Place the crank arm onto the bottom bracket spindle so that it meshes with the serrations on the spindle.
2. Install the washer and fixing bolt and tighten the fixing bolt.
Tightening torque: 35-50 Nm (305-435 in.lbs.)
3. Lastly, attach the cap.
Tightening torque: 5-7 Nm (44-60 in.lbs.)

Note: Apply grease to the reverse side of the cap and the contact surface of the fixing bolt. "

Doesn't look like there's any kind of "clock" orientation. However, make very sure that the crank serrations have in fact meshed properly with the spindle serrations before you tighten anything down. I always "vibrate" the cranks onto the spindle - sort of "walk" them home.
