rim question (newbie..)(2 posts)

rim question (newbie..)niklas

Here's a newbie rim question: why is for instance mavics cxp considered better for roadcycling than the open pro eventhough it's heavier? Any suggestions for a wheelset? Mavic cosmos or handbuilt? (in other words cheap and good). Thanks!

In my opinion, they're not necessarily better. Maybe have nominally better aerodynamics, but they will have a disadvantage climbing. Probably "cool factor" more than anything else. Open Pros are great rims, durable, reliable, easily buildable. Couple those with Shim 105 hubs, butted spokes and brass nipples and you've got a great set of training and racing wheels. With the money saved, you could buy a second set and have spares for the sag wagon.
