Small deep cut in tire - patch/fill possible?(5 posts)

Small deep cut in tire - patch/fill possible?webnel

I've recently had a small piece of class of glass work its way into my tire,
but didn't puncher the tube. This is a road bike tire (Vittoria Rubino Pro)
that has a puncher resistance belt that did its job. The cut is small, but I
know the tire is vulnerable to other debris that'll work its way into the
cut - possible causing a flat. I'd like to fill this cut with some kind of
rubber compound to prevent thinghs from getting in. Has anyone done this
kind of repair or can recommend one?

If the cut has made it through any of the casing threads, then the tyre is probably toast. Check this from the inside of the tyre, carefully. If the cut is only in the tread then you have no problem- this won't cause or encourage a puncture. Put superglue in there if you want to, it will 'vanish' the cut from sight, but is only a cosmetic fix for a cosmetic problem.

Keep punchin'

I've used Shoe Goo for this purpose (read about it on this board) and it works great.

...for about 700 miles. It happened just before an MS150 at the end of September, and it's about a half-inch long, just penetrating the casing.
I didn't have time to replace the tire before the ride, so I lined it with duct tape, then sort of forgot about it. The MS ride was rainy, and there were hundreds and hundreds of flats. I did fine. The cut doesn't seem to have grown, either.
Just lucky, I guess. Don't try this at home...

heh...i had this happen... just fold up a dollar bill and stick it between the tire and tube... i've been riding this jurryrig solution on ghetto atlanta streets with broken glass and broken acorns everywhere for 2 months and no flats... i know it's a cheap lazy solution but..oh well haha
