I admit I am in a quandary over what wheels to put on my '96 Klein Quantum frame. I think I've narrowed it to mavic open pros/dura ace or ultegra (less expensive, very solid)or velomax circuit comps (more expensive), which recently got a good review in bicycling. Purpose: I'm a rank amateur, a few time trials, a couple of road races, mostly fast club rides/recreation and training for my real sport, handball. I have a set of open pros on my other older steel bike which I really like, and wonder if I should just stick with those and get another set. Does anyone have any experience with the circuit comps? What about the CPX-33's? I guess I'm wondering if its worth it to get a little more aero; would it be noticeable at this level of wheel?

I have the Ascents, and like them alot. They dropped a whole pound from the Open Pros I had before. Light weight, stiff, true, nice wheels.

I have been thinking of getting a set of Circut Comps for a second set of wheels. If you are a Team Performance member, Performance has them for $370, plus you get 10% in credit. I have a pair of Ascent Comps and have put about 4000 miles on them with no problems, even though I am slightly over their weight limit.

over the limit by how much?

Ive been pondering ascents vs orions (vs Ksyrium SL) and wondering if weighing 160 lbs would be too much for the ascents.

Thanks,
Chad

160 - Not at all over the limit. It all depends on how rough you are on them. Velomax says that they normally ascribe 178# as their weight as to when to go to the comps, but also said that if you are not hard on them, they would be fine to 185#; and had even heavier riders using them without apparent problems.

Thanks for the input. I decided to go with some used mavics open pros/dura ace. When I start to get more serious into competition I may go with the circuit comps next year as a second set of wheels.

Lose 10 pounds; stop eating Mcdonald's bull$hit THEN buy ascent !
