|I just bought a used 2001 Colnago C40. The frame did not include the bottle cage bolts. These seem to be a smaller size than most american made bikes. Can anybody tell me what size of bolt the C40 takes. I don't live near a bike shop and I have to rely on the metric hex bolt assortment at my local hardware store. I don't want to screw up a beautiful frame.

Standard bottle cage bolts are M5. I'll have to measure mine to be sure. If you want a good source for stainless steel socket head cap screws, check out mcmaster.com. The number for an M3x12 is 91292A114, M4x12 is #91292A117. They only sell these small bolts in boxes of 100, which cost about $8.

I will go to my hardware store. They have a great selection of hardened stainless metric hex heads. I will buy some M3X12 and M4X12 and see which fits. I appreciate the help. I built up my new C40 last night. Taking the C40 for its first ride at lunch today. I can't wait!

Finally measured the bolts. Mine are 16mm long, but 12 should be long enough.

Went to hardware store this morning. Bought M4 X 16 mm length bolts in stainless steel. They worked great. Thanks!!! I took my new C40 for a 30 mile spin today. I am in heaven! I can't belive how well this thing rides. It fits me perfect and did I mention the paint job?? Ooh la la.
