campy/shimano lockring question...(5 posts)

campy/shimano lockring question...Bikeman
Oct 8, 2001 10:25 PM
Are campy and shimano lockrings compatible? I know that the splines on both freehub bodies are different, but will a shimano lockring work on a campy casette body? The reason I ask is that its much easier to buy an aftermarket aluminium shimano lockring, but I've never seen a lightweight campy replacement.

Thanks a million!

I know that the S8 is not the same as a C10. Don't know about the S9.

You can probably save the same weight as an allow lockring by cutting your hair (unless you don't have much like me - in which case a decent dump has better results).

Cheers

No. Campy has a ti lockring for 12 tooth or larger cogs. It's expensive.

They're not compatible, and actually there are a couple of different Campy lockrings (with different thread diameters and pitches, depending on model year- it can be a real pain). But there are aftermarket aluminum ones out there, I have one, but I don't remember who made it- Alloy Accents probably.
