Does anyone know how to determine the headset stack height required for a frame and fork. I don't have the original one to measure or compare to. The fork is threaded

Measure the total length of the steering tube. Be sure to measure to the base where fork's bearing race rests (be sure that the race has been removed).

Measure the length of the head tube.

Subtract the head tube length from the steering tube length. The difference is the stack height. The new headset stack height must be no more than this amount.

The measurements must all be done accurately, without roundoff error, or you could be off by 1/8 inch, which is about 3mm. I use a 12-inch machinist's scale for this type of measurement.

If the headset that you want is shorter than the calculated amount, either cut the steering tube to the required length or place an appropriately sized spacer under the locknut.
