Shimano 600 with a triple...(2 posts)

Shimano 600 with a triple...Tim

The guy I got this bike from has Shimano 600 shifters and rear der. along with a RX1000 triple chainring. It is eight speed in the back. The problem is it doesn't let me shift to the third chainring. I'm guessing Shimano 600 is incompatible with triples? If this is the case, what's the best course of action? I really don't need a triple. Switch it for a better double maybe?

You are right. The 600 sti shifter will not handle a triple.Use as is, or consider current 105 or ultegra crankset and BB which would be an upgrade. An older DA or ultegra crank would be ok too,but would also need a shorter spindle BB for chainline.
