|Rear Mech Question||NYC Rider|

I have a 1999 Cannondale r200 which is great with a nice frame, and low end components. As I ve got more back into biking (I used to race in the UK) I've started to upgrade components. I want to upgrade my Shimano RSX long cage rear mech to a better short cage shimano mech. I run on a seven speed block at the moment. Am I going to find problems in the indexing if I upgrade to a 8 speed mech? Many thanks

|You should not have too much of a problem incorporating a newer 8 speed Shimano rear derailleur into your component group. Just beware of the width of the jockey pulleys, as 8-speed is slightly narrower than 7 speed. You can upgrade your chain to an 8-speed width as one solution. A SRAM (Sachs) chain would be a good choice for this.
Check out E-bay for some really good pricing on these types of components.
