i got a new specialized allez elite with ritchey hubs. there is a squeaky noise that comes and goes that is really irritating. it sounds like it is coming from the left side of the hub. anyone know how to get rid of this? thanks.

Check the rubber boot that covers the lock nuts and spacers on the left side of the axle. Putting a little grease where the boot contacts the rotating part of the hub might solve your problem.

Do us all a favor. Let us know it this works.

i've tried dropping some prolink on that point and the noise goes away and then comes back. do i need to use grease and do i have to take the hub apart to do this? thanks for you help.

I've only had to do this once, and that was on a customer bike so I'm not positive if it solved the problem or not. That's why I want a response from you.

I just pulled the boot back from the rotating part of the hub shell and rubbed a little grease on the part of the boot that touches. I'm sure that grease will give you much more long lasting relief than Prolink.

i'm looking at my rear hub right now and i can't find the boot that your are talking about. if you look at the first picture on this page: http://www.ritcheylogic.com/hubs/main_hubs.htm - it seems like the sound is coming from the point where the 1 is pointing at. can you tell me where you put the grease? thanks once again for your help!

That's not a black rubber part just to the left of the "1"? I'm sorry that i don't have a similar hub here that I can look at. Anyway, I'd pry or whatever it took to move that part back from the hub shell and just grease the edge.
