|... essentially, the 6501 has a resettable odometer (you can re-enter your total mileage after battery replacements and such).

|The 6501 head unit can also be separately programmed for up to four bikes. Also the gear display, instead of in inches or meters shows the chain ring and cog teeth.
The 6501 transmitter is wireless while the 6500 is wired.
If the cost is the same, I'd go with the 6501 head unit. If the 6500 head unit's cheaper and you only have one bike, go with the 6500. As for the wiring harness, go with the 6501 and it's a much neater installation although you still need to retape the bars for the buttons which go under the hoods.
