Tiagra Triple Chain Rub(2 posts)

Tiagra Triple Chain RubKen

Bought a T800 tourer with a Tiagra triple crankset. The rear derailer is an XT with an SRAM 11-34 cassette. When going to the small chainring large cog combo I get chain rub in the front derailer. Is this normal? No amount of trimming with the STI shifters will stop this. Is there an adjustment proceedure to the front derailer that would eliminate this? Or should I just ignore it?

Thanks,
Ken

You're right about not be able to "trim" it out. The idea is that you're not supposed to be in the crossed gearing (small CR/largest cog or Large CR/smallest cog). The high angle of deflection is bad for the chain and tough on the alloy gear teeth. leave the rubbing in the system and use it as a reminder to double shift to a similar ratio.
