Hello Cyclists,
Could someone tell me why there are two different types of threads (Italian and English) for bottom brackets.

The old French-threaded BB's were favored by some, due to the fact that you could adjust the position of your cranks and rings. Too bad that they tended to loosen up.

The threading of a BB has nothing to do with chain line ajustment. What the heck are you talking about? English BBs are 1.37 inches diameter x 24 threads per inch. Italian are 36mm x 24 tpi, and French are 35mm x 1 thread/mm. Swiss is the same as French, but the fixed (right) cup was reverse threaded compared to the French.
