Lateral Play on Record Cranks(3 posts)

Lateral Play on Record CranksKen

Today while tighenting the bolts that attaches the small ring to the big ring I noticed that when pushing and pulling on the crankarm laterally there was a very small but perceptable sideways movement on the crank. When I repeat the action on the opposite crankarm I get the same results. An estimated 0.3mm of lateral movement. I have only 3000ks on this gruppo and am a little perplexed and miffed. I tried tightening down the crank bolts with no result. Is there a problem with my BB? What would happen if I decided to just ignore it? Riding feels still flawless. I am new to this problem and am in need of advice.

Thanks,
Ken

I would venture to say that your B/B has loosened. You need to get at the collars that screw into the frames B/B shell and tighten them.

you need to tighten the cartridge cups. The tool to do this is the same tool for your Campy cassette. If you have a torque wrench tighten them to 620 in-lbs. That's pretty tight so if you don't have one you probably won't be able to overtighten them.
