Which stem do you recommend for heavy rider(2 posts)

Which stem do you recommend for heavy riderspin
Jul 25, 2001 3:53 PM
i recently purchased a klein quantum, which i love, and have become annoyed with the stem flex from the icon stem. i am debating between a 3t forgie and a cinelli alter as a replacement stem. which way should i go? i am 6-1, 220. Although i ride with a soft grip, when making descents and during sprints, i can feel the stem give a good deal. thanks for the advise.

either stem would do, but the handle bar will flex quite a bit as well. I have been using the Cinelli Integralter stem/bar setup, and absolutely love it. Based on the Alter stem, which is this hugely oversized bit of CNC'd art, they weld on two 2"x3/4" bladed wings for the tops and then weld on a pair of drops to that). It is by far the stiffest front end available, and the bladed tops are quite comfortable for big hands. Supposedly there is a carbonfiber version that will be available around Christmas, called the Cinelli Ram. That should be pretty nice. The 1 1/8" integralter should be available in August/September i believe.
