Coda - Durarace upgrade - Should I?Mike G

DuraRace crankset and etc are on sale at Performance. I was thinking of upgrading the coda crankset I have on my new Cannondale R600. Is this worth doing? I am not a racer...recreational cyclist but do about 2 - 2.5K miles a year. It looks like a good sale. Will I have to upgrade by BB too? I was going to also upgrade the front der. from a tiagra to durarace.

Mike, When I was choosing my Canny I ended up going with the R2000si because of the Ksyrium wheels, full Ultegra package and almost NO CODA parts (I also got a great deal on the bike). I had a lot of problems with the CODA parts I had on my Canny mountain bike and I wanted to stear clear of them. Anyway I did ride the R600 several times before I went with my R2000si, and to be honest I really didn't find all that much functional difference in the CODA / Ultegra stuff. Are you having any problems with the CODA crank on your R600 ? If you're not you might just want to wait until it starts showing some wear before you spend the money on upgrades (I'm pretty sure you will have to upgrade the BB as well). If you're not having problems with the CODA stuff I think you will have more of an impact on the ride / feel of the bike by upgrading the wheelset. I absolutely love the Ksyriums on my bike, they're REALLY expensive, but when Mavic releases their 2002 models in a couple of months I'm sure you could get a pretty good deal on the 2001 models. Plus they are several other really nice wheelset that would be a big upgrade for less. Then you have your original wheels as a backup.

Thanks for your advice Crash. No - my coda crankset has been working great. The bike only has 700 miles on it and I LOVE MY CANNY! I was just thinking that since there is a decent sale going on, I should upgrade ...mostly for the heck of it. I am not a racer...just do local club rides but I like to ride fast for fitness etc..... I agree with ya, I am going to wait.
