Cannondale R500 Derailleur Upgrade -- Clamp Problem(5 posts)

Cannondale R500 Derailleur Upgrade -- Clamp Problemjjwilkin

I own a Cannondale R500. I recently upgraded to a Shimano Ultegra 9-speed cassette, and installed STI shifters. The original front derailleur on the bike is a Suntour. I attempted to replace it with an Ultegra component, but the Shimano frame adapter (part # 622-0025, FD adapter for 31.8mm frame) does not hold the Ultegra derailleur at the correct angle; further, the Suntour adapter does not accommodate the Shimano Ultegra derailleur. So, it looks like I'm stuck with the Suntour component, and I am not happy about it.

Have you heard of this problem? Do you know if anyone makes a frame adapter for my R500 bike which will hold an Ultegra derailleur?

... If I'm reading you correctly, you've got an Ultegra front der with a clamp on adapter???

For those clamps that are seperate from the Ultegra derailleur, there is a concave interface 'tween the two. This should allow small adjustments to properly position said derailleur... simply loosen the mounting bolt a bit and rotate the derailleur.

I run Ultegra on three 'Dales (one is an integral derailleur/clamp, but it still allows for adjustments) and have not had problems aligning them with the front rings...

Hope this helps...

And...

Be the bike.

But Nashbar sells a braze on adapter, and Sachs use to make one that I thought was better than Shimanos.

I run a Dura Ace front braze-on with a braze-on adaptor (I think shimano's) on my C-dale (CAAD4) without any problems - as the above post states you can get the adaptor from your LBS or Nashbar, etc...

31.8mm = 1 1/4". I have two aluminum Shimano adapters (clamps to use a braze-on front deraillers to a steat tube.) One says 31.8, Shimano SM-AD11. The other one (looks newer) says 1 1/4", SM-AD010. I have used both without any problem.

Also, I am presently using a Shimano SM-AD15, 1 3/8" adapter with a braze-on Ultegra front derailleur on my aluminum Trek. Again, no problems.

All three adapters can be adjusted for alginment of the derailleur cage to the chainrings.
