Cannondale question - what year is it?(3 posts)

Cannondale question - what year is it?davidl
Jun 30, 2001 8:30 PM
I have come in to a Cannondale [aluminum], aluminum fork, 14 speed Shimano 600 group - brakes, crankset, hubs - w/downtube shifters, mavic wheels. Does anyone have any idea what vintage this bike may be? Thanks for any information.

Cannondale encodes the year of manufacture in the serial number on the BB shell. I'm unsure of the code sequence, but a Cannondale shop, or http://www.cannondale.com should be able to tell you.

The gruppo sounds fairly retro (old Ultegra stuff) if it's original to the bike. Just check to make sure that there are no cracks at critical junctures or damage to the tubeset... Aluminium frames don't handle cracks well at all... and are cost prohibitive to repair. On the other hand, if there is no damage, the frame could last a lifetime.

Be the bike.
Thanks !davidl

I'll e-mail C/dale. The group [everything but the headset is 600] is original to the bike. No cracks that I can find, but a couple of harmless dents. It rides very well, shifts just fine and the wheels are true. I'm keeping it retro.
