|just levers or 9 speed upgrade?||marctroy|

|I'm new to road bikes and just got a LiteSpeed Classic that was built-up for someone that had to ride upright. It has 8 speed Ultegra group, except for a quill stem, GripShifts, a mountain riser bar and mountain brake levers. The brake calipers and the balance of the drivetrain is 8 speed Ultegra. I'd like to convert the bike to a road bike, but it seems used 8 speed STI levers are impossibe to get (they sell used within 5 minutes!). A LBS can get new Ultegras shifters/levers for me for $220, but then all I've got is an 8 speed Ultegra group. I've seen complete 9 speed upgrades (levers, casette, chain, derrs) for $350/Ultegra and $450/DuraAce, but I don't know if I can use the D/A with the balance of my Ultegra group and if it's worth the additional expense for D/A (I can afford it, if necessary)or, if its even worth upgrading to 9 speed. Any suggestions would be appreciated!|

|No one seems to want to touch this question. The smart choice is to buy a complete conversion kit, which includes a rear derailleur, cassette, chain and STI levers.
Shop around though, $350 is high. Performance Bicycle (not known for low prices) has the kit for $300 in ultegra and $400 in DuraAce. I'm sure there must be even cheaper sources.
