Dura Ace 9 speed leversiclmn

I have a Dura Ace 9 speed lever that is requiring a very heavy press of the finger to get it to shift down through all 9 gears. When it was new it only took a light pressure. Maybe I should have gotten Ultegra? Is there any way to lube it? I have only 1400 miles of shifting on it.
check the cables firstHank

Make sure the cables and housing are in good condition and properly lubed.

This sounds like a cable problem like Hank suggested. I would check the cable in question and if it is suspect, replace it with a new shimano sti housing and cable. I do not think that these newer cables need to be greased.

I use light oil on der cables and grease on brake cables. On the rear der of my mtb, I use Gortex cables - fantastic.
Maybe you should upgrade to Campy!!!Dog

the first run of the 2nd generation 9spd lever (first gen did not have dust covers over the shifter cable heads and a few other minor tweaks). Shimano is warranting these levers if they fail. You will have to take it into your LBS or send it to Shimano direct.

I had the exact same problem and that is how I found this out. Sounds like you have the same thing.
