How do I know if my BB is english or italian thread. I have an old Miele with a Shimano Sante BB that needs to be replaced. I just can't tell what thread it is. Any help is appreciated.

With due respect to carbonguy, I don't believe his answer is correct all the time. There have been some oddball b/b shell widths thru the years and MOST are indeed either 68 or 70. Your Miele is probably italian. If memory serves, its a Canadian distributed bike, but built in Italy. The fail-safe method: Italian threaded b/b drive side threads in 'normally' (righthand threads) English b/b drive side threads in lefthanded.

Shimano was pretty good about putting the size on the cup face. Pull an arm. Look for BC-1.37 (for British Cycle, English threading) or 36mm x 24 TPI.

Thanks for the help everyone. And yes the cup is stamped 36 x 24, so I guess it is an italian threaded BB.
