|There seem to be alot of Deda newton stems breaking here in southern california, both 31.8 and 26 mm. Anyone else seeing or hearing of this? I check mine before each ride, but I'm starting to get worried, and then it's not really worth it, is it? |
thanks for the info.

|I installed it about 2 months ago. I do weekly race on poor pavement and the bars were slipping. After loosening the bolts, adjusting the bars and tightening a few times the bolt holes stripped (not the bolts). I replaced all the Ti bolts with longer steel bolts.
After thinking about it and reading an article in Velonews about torque on stem bolts, I decided to get rid of the stem all together. I'm a weight weenie but the stem is one place I don't want to mess around. Any failure would be too catastrophic.

|newton stems had a lot of problems late last year due to the faceplate cracking from stress fractures near the bolts. the problem seems to be solved as deda redesigned the face plate and sent me new ones for the two newtons i currently use. since then i haven't had any problems but i inspect the face plate for cracks before each ride....|| |
