new Ultegra STI brake lever problem.....(2 posts)

new Ultegra STI brake lever problem.....The Old Man
Jun 6, 2001 5:24 PM
I just installed a new Ultegra STI set and the right pod has about 15mm of lash in the brake lever. This initial movement does not pull any cable at all. New gore cables/housing were installed at the same time -- the lever will start to pull the cable after the initial movement. They work fine but the lash causes the lever to rattle on rougher roads -- any help would be most appreciated.
Thanks!
Bud

It sort of sounds like you have some slack in the cable - are you certain the cable end is seated properly in the lever? If when you twist the adjuster on the brakes they neither open nor close a little bit, then there is probably slack in the cable. Maybe it's sticking a little or something - try giving the cable a good yank to see if you can remove any slack - could be that the cable is binding in the housing and doesn't slip back when you release the brake lever, too...
