| Mavic Open Pros versus CXP 33s | veloboy May 29, 2001 1:07 PM | | I read this forum fairly frequently and don't remember seeing this conversation in the recent past. If we've already done this to death I appologize in advance.
I am looking to try my hand at building a wheelset. I have been riding a set of Dura Ace 32 hole nine-speed hubs laced three cross to Mavic Open Pro rims. I've got a few thousand miles on them and they are getting worn out. The hubs are in good shape, as are the flanges so I thought I would give it a go.
I have not been unhappy with the open pros but am wondering what the ride is like with the CXPs. They are comparable in price. I am 195 lbs, bunny-hop the potholes and railroad tracks I can, but don't always make it. I don't race much but still have to climb on every ride so weight is still a factor.
Would the CXPs offer anything the open pros don't and vice-versa? Anyone know of where to get the best deal on either?
Any thoughts on either would be appreciated. By the way, they don't neccessarily have to be Mavic, I have just always ridden their rims, both road and mountain, and have not had any serious complaints and they are the most readily available.
Thanks,
David Finney |

I weigh 180+ and have had a major wreck on them... they stayed true! Not sure about the weight issue though. If I wanted to lose a few grams, I could just take a leak. |
