| Crankset compatibility | newbie May 25, 2001 8:40 PM | | Can I use an 8spd 39/53 Dura Ace crankset on a 9spd bike? |
| Yes and No | grz mnky May 25, 2001 8:47 PM | | Yes you can mount it up and it will work assuming that you've solved the BB issue (spline vs. taper design). However, it's advised that you change the small chainring to a 9 speed for closer spacing so the 9 speed chain will shift properly. |

| it works easily | wes_london May 27, 2001 1:16 PM | | i have a dura-ace 7400 series crankset and bb. the spacing for 9 speed is tighter and closer in. so the inner (small) chainring needs to be replaced for a later model 9 speed one. the bb that matches it is a tapered and slightly longer as this series crank has more dish to the arms. both old and new sit at the same distance in relation to the chain. oh, and by the way i have both my items for sale in the classified section. 170 mm 53/39. blue alloy chainring bolts. italian thread bottom bracket.
