My bike came with the cordless Flight Deck 6501. My bike is full Dura Ace.
The computer works fine as long as it is in the RPM mode (mode 2).
When the computer is switched into trip, trip time (Mode 1)it goes crazy! It is looking for the gear that I am in. The strange thing is, it does not do this every time!!!! it is inconsistant but always in mode 1.
Each time I take it LBS it is working fine. Can anyone HELP! Or has anyone else had this problem?

Probably it has to do with the contacts in the levers. Pull the sleeves off, remove the plastic cover and pry the contacts in the lever a little bit to the outside. In this way the contact will be more optimal.
Be also careful when screwing the plastic cover back into place. When you give the screw too little torque, no gear indication will be shown on the computer. The best way is to alternately screw both screws while watching the computer. All of a sudden it wil start registering the curren gear. Now it's time to stop and put everything back into place.

Wild Bill-

I've had a similar, but different problem. My FD doesn't know which gear the rear shifter is in due to a wire coming into the mount being partially cut. You need to first determine if the problem is in the computer or the mount. I'd start with a new battery and the CPU removed from the bike and run through all the modes using the "A" and "B" buttons on the back of the CPU. Verify that the wheel size and that the gear ratios are properly programed, including the toggle for the Rapid Rise (XTR) mode (code 111 vs. 222 setting). It is not unusual to make an error in the set up.

If the CPU checks out then you need to look at the mount and transmitter -I don't have any experience with the FD wireless, but some things to check are the wires to and from the shifters and ensuring that the little plastic/metalic connectors are making full contact. Verify that the buttons run through all of the functions and modes. Take a pencil eraser and rub the contacts between the CPU and the mount - a little bit of corrosion here can really mess things up and intermitent problems are perhaps the toughest to deal with. When something is consistently not working it is a lot easier. Finally you could try installing your CPU on another bike that is known to be working correctly. Verify that the wireless transmitter at the wheel is sending a consistent speed signal.

Hope this helps - let us know what you determine.

The Flight Deck with wires is not a reliable piece of equipment!

My friend has the very same computer and his trouble is in MODE2! His ave. speed is always 115 or more!!His max. speed is only 45?? Go figure. He is going to try and pry the contacts in the shifter.
I have re-programed my computer so I am hoping this works.I will also try to pry the contacts in the shifter. These computers are $200.00 in Canada!
Thanks for your feed back.

The part of my FD wires that are messed up is the RHS from the _shifter_ - going wireless doesn't change this.

I've got zero problems with the wheel input.

$200 for the unit is obscene. I literally have a large plastic jar full of all sorts of dead wired sensors. the MTB doesn't have any comouter b/c they keep dying - something to do with tree/bike interactions. Thinking that the VDO wireless unit may be the trick, but no caedence. The Polar S710 may be a possibility, but so far it's pure vaporware.

I have a similar setup - I had a problem where the screws for the rear shifter harness started backing out, so that the harness would make intermittant contact while riding (so it kept flashing the gear selection info) - tightened it back down, and all was well!

Mine had some strange going ons and I call my LBS and he told me to reset it. It still keeps all of you information and stats. It worked for me. Does Microsoft make this thing?
