|Which cassette will get me up the Pyrenees?||Russ|

|Can anyone suggest what cassette I'll need for serious climbing?
My lowest gear on the road is usually 39x25, and I need it on really steep climbs.
I'm going to the last 10 days of the TDF and will be attempting some climbs in the Pyrenees. I'm around 220 lbs. The bike will be light, with Racing Triple, 30/42/52.
Off road, I go as low as 20x28. I use that gear more than I'd like to admit.
I'd rather have one or two cogs I may never use, than not to be able to spin on and on.
Here's the options, all 9-speed:
11-21, 11-23, 12-21, 12-23, 13-23, and 13-26.

|Dang, with a frigin 30X25 you should be able to climb a tree... ;) Seriously, that sounds like plenty of gearing UNLESS you are carrying all of your gear. Sounds unlikely since you mentioned the bike will be light. You won't gain much by going to a 26.
Can you tell us the tour company you are using? I'm considering doing that same thing next year. Give us a review when you come back also. :)
good luck JohnG

|I'm going with Australians, Bikestyle Promotions, run by a guy named Lawrie Cranley. You can check it out by going to cyclingnews.com and clicking the icon on the left on their home page.|

|It really depends. When I went to the Tour in 96 my lowest gear was a 39 X 26. I had some trouble on the steep climbs but overall I was ok. Then again I weight 160 lbs. I think you'll be fine with a triple and a 13- 26. Might as well enjoy your vacation.|

|I can tell you I need a 39 x 28 to climb the Mt Ventoux and it wouldn't have hurt if I would have had a 29 cog! Be prapered for the cold when you climb the Cols of the Pyrenees. The weather can change rapidly in the mountains. |
Good luck! Pina
