|I am looking for an old (six years or older) Ultegra 600, 105, or DuraAce headset.
I need a 1" threaded with a stack height 30 mm or less.
It needs to have caged or loose bearings - no cartridge bearings!!
Do you know any distributors that stock an older part like this??

|I just went through a similar search. I ended up with a Ritchey headset that I got through the local shop. It has a relatively low stack height, and fit fairly well on my fork, which was cut for an old 600 headset. The thread engagement is not as far as I would like it, but it seems to be enough to hold it together. The stack height of the Ritchey headset is listed as 28 mm in the QBP catalog that the shop uses, and 33 mm on the Harris Cyclery website. I guess it depends on who measures it. Based on the fit on my bike, I'm guessing it's closer to 33 mm. Tange also makes a low cost headset that lists as 31 mm, and that may be a good option.
I actually thought about cutting a few mm off of my head tube above or below the lugs to allow for a headset with a bigger stack height, but I chickened out.
Good luck. If you do find a source for low stack headsets, please post it. I may buy one or two just to have in stock.

|www.loosescrews.com use to carry them.Don't know if they are still around.Heard they were still selling off inventory recently. Also try www.branfordbike.com and www.harriscyclery.com Be careful of the older 1" headsets, as many, especially the 105 were available in both ISO and JIS 1" varieties. Be sure of what you have.Assume nothing. ISO is 26.4mm crown race and 30.2mm cups and JIS is 27.0mm crown race and 30.0mm cups.|| |
