bad headtube on new frame?(3 posts)

bad headtube on new frame?kevcp

Headtube too large for headset race. I cannot press the headset cups into my new frame because the headtube is too wide. The headset cups can move freely. It's not a size issue 1 or 11/8''. Headtube and cane creek headset are 1''. Is this a bad frame?

If the headtube is really designed for a 1" than yes the frame is probably bad, test a different headset first to see if the headset isn't the problem. Just cause it's a road bike doesn't mean it can't be 1"1/8 so double check on that as well. If both turn up negative it's time for a new frame. TTFN

I'd measure the inside of the head tube on your bike frame. If its close to 30.2mm, it is, indeed designed for a 1" headset and something is wrong. If it's 34.0mm, then your bike frame is designed for a 1 1/8" headset and fork.
