Question for spoke wrench (or similar!)....muncher

SR, you very kindly game me some info on spacers for Shim cassettes the 3.1/3.3 mm issue which you though was IG/HG difference.

Well, I got a new spacer, and the shifting is still all up the creek. I brorrowed a wheel with a sachs casette while mine was trued, and the shifting was right on, so it's not the mech.

Question is - do you know if the spacing was all slightly different on IG/HG casettes (hence the different width spacer) - I thought not, the spacer difference was to deal with the flange/no flange issue? But I just cannot work this problem out to any other conclusion?

Many thanks for your time again - M.

It's not the spacers,it's the shifting ramps on the cogs.HG and IG require different chains. ChecK the glossary of terms in sheldon Browns articles at www.harriscyclery.com

Grief - you are quite correct - apparently, a sachs chain solves the problem, as it is compatible with both, and they are cheaper.

Just goes to show - and I thought I had thought of everything.

Many thanks!
