Speedplay cleat maintenance?(3 posts)

Speedplay cleat maintenance?highrpm

I've heard/read that Speedplay X cleats (road pedals) need to be lubed up every ride or so. Is there truth to this? Can it be done less often? It seems like an awful lot of lubing for what seems to be such an otherwise low-maint. product.

Any other tips/hints? I'm considering ordering the X-2s. Thank you.

they do not. i sprinkle a little white lightning on there once in a blue moon. they are smooth and trouble free. the best thing about them, maintainence- wise is that you can re-lube the internals in 30 sec with a grease gun. buy them.

A little White Lightining on the springs makes the pedals easier to click into, but I doubt you'll have much problem if you don't do it.

You do need to lube the pedals every few thousand miles or so, but that takes about 5 minutes.

I have the X-3's and like them very much. Next time I'll probably go with the X-2's for the lighter weight.
