Use Shimano cassette on Campy hub?(3 posts)

Use Shimano cassette on Campy hub?New2Road
Apr 17, 2001 3:44 PM
I recently acquired a rear wheel with a Campagnolo-style rear hub (8-speed) and I was wondering if it were possible to say switch the freehub body to use a Shimano cassette (a low-cost solution for a relative's bike) Can they be switched or is there another way I haven't thought of (Unfortunately using full Campy is out of the question in this case and I am assuming that Shimano STIs won't work at all with Campagnolo sprockets...)

Any advice would be greatly appreciated

No matter how hard you force it, a Shimano cassette is not gonna fit on that hub. Don't fret, you can by a spacer kit from Wheels Manufacturing (see www.Branfordbike.com) that will space a campy cassette (has to be one with loose cogs) to work with Shimano stuff.

Dave's right - but depends on the age of the stuff - the spline fitting may be different. If there is a problem, there are plenty of after market blocks around to deal with the problem pretty cheaply. Check the web/lbs....
