What age to change forks?CDT

At what age should you change forks? Carbon,Alu or Cromo. The average for bars and stems is three years but what about forks.

It never hurts to inspect for signs of damage or fatigue cracking, but unless something's wrong I wouldn't change a fork without reason. I know people riding steel forks that are 15 to 20 years old.

Carbon forks might be an exception. There are lots of different designs and manufacturing techinques, and all won't be equally durable.
