I wear Sidi shoes and use Time pedals, but I used to wear Shimano shoes and in general I find the fit to be very similar between the two. If you are using 7700 pedals there is likely not a better shoe than the R212.

Performance has a "killer" deal on the '99 Shimano MegaPavemantis shoes. $129.99 ! and the will work with your 7700 pedals. Check them out...

I have the Energy's and love them, the fit is wonderful. But what fits me, may not fit you. Don't worry about the sole, buy what fits you the best.
