STI to Downtube Shifter conversionDrew

I'm geting a new bike with the Shimano STI shifters. How difficult is it to convert to downtube shift levers if I decide I don't like the STI levers?

It depends on the frame. Look at the frame. If the STI cable guides are on the downtube and they can be removed, then you can convert to downtube shifters. If the STI cable guides are welded to the headtube or downtube then a conversion would be difficult. I held out for years converting to STI. Now that I have it, I believe its the only way to go.

....bar end shifters are always an option.
