|The only significant shortcoming of the group is the 111mm spindle length on the cheap, old style bottom bracket. It's not compatible with the 102mm length used on chorus and record cranks. An upgrade would require a new crank and bottom bracket.
Personally, I'd spend an extra $250 and get chorus, or at least upgrade to a chorus crank & BB at the time of purchase. It should only be around $60 more.

|I swapped out '99 Veloce for the '01 Daytona one one of my training bikes, and I think it's worth every penny. IMHO the parts are the same quality as '00 Chorus with a small weight penalty. The levers still use bushings and you have to deal with that damn permalink, but shifts are crisp and noiseless. The brakes are top-notch and the hubs are okay. All in all, it compares favorably to last year's Chorus, but there's still a leap up to Record, which I consider the absolute best group. I was able to get a good deal from txcyclesport.com.
I have no idea what the impact is of 111mm v. 102mm bb mentioned in prior post. Best of luck.
