Apparently, STI levers ARE rebuildable! Here's a service guide I found while looking for help in repairing my Ultegras, and an exploded view of the levers - enjoy!

Good link for the major sub-assemblies, but only scratches the surface on a true rebuild of the guts. The double ratchet and pawl mechanism is very cleaver and tricky to re-assemble.

The insides, they're not pretty. Anyway, I disected a broken lever, and there are no fewer than 75 independant parts in there. It really makes you appreciate why they cost so much. A complete rebuild of the levers is something that while theoretically possible, is probably not worth your time, effort, and frustration.
