How much does shoe weight matter with respect to racing, sprinting, and climbing?

I have a pair of 6 yr old Vittoria shoes that are almost twice the weight of my wife's Shimano shoes. I'm thinking of upgrading. Are the carbon soled shoes too stiff (circulation problems)?

I know when I put on the booties the extra weight is very noticable, so I believe it does make a difference. Don't give up any sole stiffness though or you will notice that also.

There are two areas where weight is not a concern for me. Saddle and shoes. i would not make a purchase decision on either one of those items based on weight alone. Buy the most comfortable shoe/saddle you can find. Your but and feet will thank you. There are lots of other areas to take weight off.
